Where our information comes from
Every number this tool shows has a source. Coverage math is simple volume arithmetic — about 17 two-cubic-foot bags of mulch match one large box at the same 2-inch depth, and one cubic yard covers 162 square feet. Application windows come from NOAA's 1991–2020 frost probability normals for your growing zone, shown as ranges because weather deals in odds, not dates. Plant-protection rings, depths, and technique follow university cooperative extension guidance.
